All driving licenses issued from the U.S.A, Canada and the European Economic Area (EEA) are valid in Iceland. A driving license from anywhere else is valid provided it has:

The registered driver must be at least 20 years of age and have held a full drivers license for at least 12 months.

You will also need a valid driver’s license, passport and a valid credit card to rent a vehicle in Iceland.
It depends on the travel insurance policy that you have purchased. Take a good look at the fine print to see what it covers, if anything.
In any case, and because it’s better to be safe than sorry, make sure that the same person appears on the travel insurance and on the rental agreement, and that if you incur any damage, you report it within 24 hours of the event.
The price for fuel in Iceland is high and tends to peak during the summer months.
For example, during August 2021 the price of gas in Iceland was 225.8 ISK per liter ($1.75 USD). That’s nearly $7 USD per gallon, so keep the high gas prices in mind when planning your trip!
