OUR CUSTOMERS HAVE SPOKEN!

Annabelle Sappa

Great rental from start to finish. The staff at their Keflavik office and the customer service team are really nice and very helpful. The car was in good condition, very comfy to drive & economical (we did the whole Route 1) The rental price was really good, definitely the cheapest one around. I highly recommend this rental company.

Booking online in New Zealand, we had no idea which rental company to use in Iceland and chose Reykjavik Cars mainly on price and some good reviews. We were not disappointed. The compact car we chose was great to drive, the friendly team at the Reykjavik city office gave us all the information we needed regarding road rules and driving in Iceland, and the price was very reasonable.

We had a great experience with Reykjavík Cars! Our car was ready when we landed, it worked great the entire trip. The WiFi was helpful in navigating the island and worked seamlessly. Drop off was easy. I prefer to try and use local companies while traveling to keep money in the country I am going to and this fit that bill as well!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Got questions? You’re in luck! We’ve already provided answers to the most common questions regarding luxury car rentals in Iceland.

Iceland is full of remote natural wonders, many inaccessible without your own means of transport. Renting a car in Iceland provides comfort and gives you the freedom to plan your trip the way you want, making the most out of every minute spent on the island.
Renting a high-end car in Iceland for 1 week will cost you around $861 ($123 per day), depending on the season and the vehicle choice. The bigger your budget is, the better the vehicle you can hire!
Currently, as shown in the following price/quality benchmark of Iceland car rentals, the wise choice is Reykjavik Cars. The reason you won’t find us on rental comparison sites, such as Kajak or RentalCars, is because we only work with local companies and are 100% based in Iceland. Why? To make sure we get the best deals and to provide the best customer service possible!

All driving licenses issued from the U.S.A, Canada and the European Economic Area (EEA) are valid in Iceland. A driving license from anywhere else is valid provided it has:

  • A license number.
  • The license holder's photograph.
  • A valid date.
  • Been printed in Latin characters.

If your driving license does not fulfill ANY of the above requirements then you MUST obtain an International Driving License to be able to drive in Iceland.

The registered driver must be at least 20 years of age and have held a full drivers license for at least 12 months.

The minimum age of the registered driver may vary according to the type of vehicle hired. Please check our terms and conditions.

You will also need a valid driver’s license, passport and a valid credit card to rent a vehicle in Iceland.

You can use Iceland’s Ring Road to go all the way around the island in a single day if you don’t stop! But where’s the fun in that? Most people prefer spending a few days to complete this route and around 2 weeks to explore the island itself.

As you’ll probably want to venture out of Reykjavik and explore the island further, we recommend renting an automatic four-wheel drive (aka. 4x4) or SUV, as it will guarantee your mobility despite adverse weather conditions and give you the chance to reach as many far off corners of Iceland as possible.

It depends on the travel insurance policy that you have purchased. Take a good look at the fine print to see what it covers, if anything.

In any case, and because it’s better to be safe than sorry, make sure that the same person appears on the travel insurance and on the rental agreement, and that if you incur any damage, you report it within 24 hours of the event.

No, very low ground clearance sports cars and supercars are not available for rent due to the risks that the Icelandic landscape and weather conditions pose for both the vehicle and the driver.

The price for fuel in Iceland is high and tends to peak during the summer months.

For example, during August 2021 the price of gas in Iceland was 225.8 ISK per liter ($1.75 USD). That’s nearly $7 USD per gallon, so keep the high gas prices in mind when planning your trip!
